We Want Your Fall Weddings, Including Last Year's
The October wedding sitting on your drive has not expired.
There is a wedding on your hard drive right now that you have quietly written off. An October wedding, probably. The gallery was ready by November, you meant to submit it, the season got away from you, and somewhere along the way you decided it had aged out.
It has not. We would like to see it.
This is less an explainer than a request. Style Me Pretty receives between 400 and 600 weddings each week,1 and fall and winter are still the seasons vendors hold back on, usually for reasons that are not true.
A fall wedding does not go off. It ages about as fast as the venue it was shot in.
1. Last Year's Fall Wedding Still Counts
The single most common reason a beautiful seasonal wedding never reaches us is that the vendor decided, privately and without asking, that it was too late.
For the record, from our editorial team: last year's fall weddings are good.2 A wedding from last October is a wedding we would consider this autumn. So is one from the October before that, if the work holds up.
What matters is whether the wedding is strong and whether it is right for our readers. A date on a file is not a disqualification, and nobody here is checking how long it sat on your drive.
Practical step: Go through last year's fall and winter galleries this week and pick the strongest one. If you talked yourself out of submitting it at the time, submit it now.
2. Send It Before You Think You Should
We run fall and winter weddings year round, and we also love seasonality, which are both true at once.2 A fall wedding can go up in March. It just tends to do its best work for readers when it runs closer to the season it belongs to.
Our schedule is typically set a month or two ahead, and it moves more than people expect. Things get rearranged, slots open, and a wedding that seemed to have missed its moment sometimes has not.
So the answer to "is it too late" is usually to ask rather than to assume. The assumption costs you the submission. The question costs you an email.
Practical step: If you want a wedding to run in season, send it well ahead of that season rather than during it. If the season has already started, send it anyway and ask.

3. Ask Us What We Are Short On
This sits in our submission guidelines and almost nobody uses it. We say plainly that we are often lacking content from certain areas, and that if you reach out we will share our needs list.1
A needs list turns a guess into a plan. If we are light on winter weddings in a particular region, a vendor sitting on exactly that wedding has gone from hoping to knowing.
The same section asks you to put a city and state in the submission title, for the same reason: we are actively watching where our coverage is thin.
Practical step: Email and ask what we need for the season you are aiming at, before you package anything. Then put the city and state in the title when you send it.
4. Get the Order of Operations Right
Two things in our guidelines decide the order you should do this in. We still prefer unique, unpublished content for a front page feature, with exceptions made on a case by case basis, and our local blogs do not carry the same expectation.1 So send to us before you send widely, and ask about the local blogs if the front page has already moved on.
The second is about your own blog, where we are more relaxed than vendors expect. We are not especially concerned about a wedding appearing on your site before it appears on ours. What we ask for is coordination, and we give something back for it.
"If you want to get the most bang for your buck out of your publication, provide the permalink to which it will go live on the same day that we are publishing it."
Tell us where your version will live and we add the link to the feature. Both pages then land in the same few weeks of interest, which is worth more than either one alone.
Practical step: Include your intended permalink with the submission, even if the post is not written yet, and hold your own publish date until ours is confirmed.
The Bigger Picture
Most of the fall weddings we would love to publish are sitting in folders because a vendor made a quiet guess about our calendar and got it wrong. Almost none of them are being held back on purpose.
We would rather see the wedding and say no than never see it. A decline costs you an email. The wedding nobody sent costs everyone the feature.
